Youtube automatic ads on smart TV

Automatic launch of ads has been implemented either of the Youtube website or on the mobile app. It now applies also to another screen, namely smart TV. Once you open the Youtube application on a connected television set, an ad will be displayed at the top of the homepage.

Deze Week withdraws half of its local editions

Publisher Roularta is about to downsize the number of regional editions of their publication Deze Week: 19 of them are about to disappear, with only 17 left, most of them consisting of mergers. This change will be effective in November 2019. Last year, Streekkrant Groep became Deze Week, but the new identity did not prevent the free local paper to decrease: compared to Streekkrant, they lost ± 900.000 average issue readers. Gross advertising value reported by Nielsen lost 20% in the first half of 2019 compared to same period in 2018.

Facebook to withdraw "likes" too

Facebook is reported to test the withdrawal of the "like" counts on all pages.

In doing so, Facebook alledgedly would decrease "addiction" of users and competition between them. This policy has been already implemented by Instagram. Just like on Instagram, "likes" would stil fuel the algorithms, but would no longer be visible to users. Some argue that the absence of "like" counts may restore the appeal of Facebook, by reducing stress among users. 

Youtube double ads

For a few months now, Youtube  has doubled the number of ads displayed as prerolls and midrolls. Instead of one single ad, there are now 2 consecutive commercials. To avoid to overexpose the users to advertising, they however limit the number of ad breaks. Studies show Google that people prefer to be interrupted less often.

At the same time, Youtube announced that it would broadcast full movie films for free, interrupted by some ad breaks. Youtube gradually comes closer to the linear television model.

Zemanta: Native DSP @ Outbrain
