DAB+ radio: Roxx is the next private station in the North

Next to the public network, some private radios are now available in the DAB(+) frequencies.

ROXX is a new national Flemish DAB+ radio station dedicated to rock music. It is also available via Internet et cable television (Telenet).

The targetgroup consists of adults looking for an alternative to Studio Brussel and Radio 1. It is a musical station which offers a wide mix of major rock hits from the latest six decades.

The sales house is IP Radio which is now in charge of all the national independent Flemish radio stations DAB + : Roxx (Rock), VBRO (Dutch music), VBRO Evergreen (60’s and 70’s) et Family Radio (Pop & Dutch).

NRJ also in Flanders

SBS will start a new Flemish FM radio station “NRJ Vlaanderen” after the summer with combination of key city radios. Targetgroup : adults 14-44.  NRJ will have theoretical FM-reach of 65%.  Shareholders are 50% Mediahuis and 50% De Vijver Media (SBS).  The radio station would  be available via FM, online and cable (in the future also on DAB+). Sales house not known yet, as NRJ South is currently in the RMB portfolio and Nostalgie at IP (NRJ and Nostalgie are part of the same holding).

TopRadio back on FM

As a result of the last call for tenders for FM Radio licenses, the Flemish Government had withdrawn the authorisation granted to TopRadio. It finally appeared that the station that had taken the place from TopRadio, Hit FM, did not fullfil all conditions. Therefore, Top Radio (IP Belgium) recovers its FM licence at the expense of Hit FM. The station is expected to broadcast again on FM in April this year.

This part of the call of tenders was dedicated to urban radio, semi national, with specific profiles. 

More regional radio stations into IP offering

The regional radio stations "Sud Radio" and Antipode used to indepently commercialize their advertising inventory. Sud Radio aimed at all adults between 20 and 60 years covers the Hainaut territory. Antipode has a core target group of women between 30 and 55 years, ad is locally targeted at the Brabant Wallon. As of May 1st of this year, both radio  will be commercialized by IP Belgium. This provides advertiser with a more precise reach on the southern part of Belgium, next to the networks that IP has been offering for years now.

Stingray Hits on Proximus TV

Proximus TV will propose a new music channels in both national languages in its basic package. The new channels wil consist of music videos coming from (oa) Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, Kendji Girac, Black M, Indila, Maître Gims, Adèle, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, etc as well as older ones. Local content should account for 30% of total broadcasting. Stingray Digital Group Inc is a Canadian company that offers mutli-platform musical programming to pay TV operators. It is not known yet whether or not this new channel will be measured by CIM.
